Data Communication System (DTI)
In data communication, the objective is to get the data to the right destination at the right time with minimum possible cost and minimum possible errors. The four main communication processors and the extent to which they support the achievement of the objectives are: Communication processors are processors with specific optimizations to support communications-teams. Communication processors exist in a wide variety of forms and can be categorized based don the communication system, such as wired or wireless, and based on the layer in the communication system, such as the physical layer, the medium access control layer, or the network layer. Communication processors can be further categorized based on the application, such as audio, video or data and the end system requiring the communication system such as a laptop, a cell phone or a personal computer

1. Modulation Demodulation (Modem).Signals consist of two components –the information signal and the carrier signal. The transmission of any signal over some communication medium usually involves modulation of a carrier. Prior to their transmission the information signal and the carrier signal are combined and the process of combining these two signals is called Modulation

.2. concentrators generally used, a concentrator is a device that acts as an efficient forwarder of data transmission signals. A remote-access hub sometimes referred to as a concentrator. The termaggregatoris also frequently used with approximately the same meaning. A typical concentrator or remote access hub is a device that handles incoming dial-up calls for an Internet (or another network)point-of-presence and performs other services. A concentrator or hub may be able to handle up to100 dial-up modem calls, support a certain number of ISDN connections, and support eased line and frame relay traffic while also functioning as a router

3. MultiplexersA multiplexer sometimes referred to as a "multiplexor" or simply "mux", is a device that selects between a number of input signals. In its simplest form, a multiplexer will have two signal inputs, one control input, and one output. An everyday example of an analog multiplexer is the source selection control on a home stereo unit. It's a device that enables a single communication channel to carry data transmissions from multiple sources simultaneously . The device divides communication channel so that it can be shared by multiple transmission devices

DIS Dhn - Chemistry - Grade-7
Sermin Sabnam
Senior Teacher, DIS EM Dhanmondi

Chemistry is the scientific discipline involved with elements and compounds composed of atoms, molecules and ions: their composition, structure, properties, behavior and the changes they undergo during a reaction with other substances.

In the scope of its subject, chemistry occupies an intermediate position between physics and biology. It is sometimes called the central science because it provides a foundation for understanding both basic and applied scientific disciplines at a fundamental level. For example, chemistry explains aspects of plant chemistry (botany), the formation of igneous rocks (geology), how atmospheric ozone is formed and how environmental pollutants are degraded (ecology), the properties of the soil on the moon (cosmochemistry), how medications work (pharmacology), and how to collect DNA evidence at a crime scene (forensics).

DIPTI JAVA
Java is one of the best programming languages created ever, and I am not saying this because I am a passionate Java developer, but Java has proved it in the last 20 years. Two decades is a big time for any Programming language, and Java has gained strength every passing day. Though there are times when Java development slows down, Java has responded well. Earlier with groundbreaking changes in the form of Enum, Generics, and Autoboxing in Java 5, performance improvement with Java 6, functional programming using the lambda expressions in Java 8, and Google's choice of language for Android apps development keeps Java as a front-line programming language.

Why You Must Consider Writing Software Applications in JAVA

1) Java is Easy to learn
Many would be surprised to see this one of the top reasons for learning Java or considering it as the best programming language, but it is. If you have a steep learning curve, it would be difficult to get productive in a short span of time, which is the case with most of the professional project.
Java has fluent English like syntax with minimum magic characters e.g., Generics angle brackets, which makes it easy to read Java program and learn quickly.
Once a programmer is familiar with initial hurdles with installing JDK and setting up PATH and understand How Classpath works, it's pretty easy to write a program in Java.
.
2) Java is an Object-Oriented Programming Language

Another reason, which made Java popular is that it's an Object Oriented Programming language. Developing an OOP application is much easier, and it also helps to keep system modular, flexible, and extensible.
Once you have knowledge of crucial OOP concepts like Abstraction, Encapsulation, Polymorphism, and Inheritance, you can use all those with Java. Java itself embodies many best practices and design patterns in its library.
Java is one of the few close to 100% OOP programming languages. Java also promotes the use of SOLID and Object-oriented design principles in the form of open source projects like Spring, which make sure your object dependency is managed well by using the Dependency Injection principle.

3) Java has Rich API

One more reason for Java programming language's huge success is its Rich API, and most importantly, it's highly visible because it comes with Java installation.
When I first started Java programming, I used to code Applets, and those days Applets provides excellent animation capability, which amazes new programmers like us, who are used to code in Turbo C++ editor.
Java provides API for I/O, networking, utilities, XML parsing, database connection, and almost everything. Whatever left is covered by open source libraries like Apache Commons, Google Guava, Jackson, Gson, Apache POI, and others.
You can further see my post 20 essential open source libraries for Java programmers to learn more about useful libraries Java developers should know.

4) Powerful development tools e.g., Eclipse, Netbeans

Believe it or not, Eclipse and Netbeans have played a huge role in making Java one of the best programming languages. Coding in IDE is a pleasure, especially if you have coded in DOS Editor or Notepad.
They not only help in code completion but also provides a powerful debugging capability, which is essential for real-world development. Integrated Development Environment (IDE) made Java development much more comfortable, faster, and fluent. It's easy to search, refactor, and read code using IDEs.
Apart from IDE, Java platform also has several other tools like Maven and ANT for building Java applications, Jenkins for Continuous Integration and delivery, decompilers, JConsole, Visual VM for monitoring Heap usage, etc.

5) Great collection of Open Source libraries

Open-source libraries ensure that Java should be used everywhere. Apache, Google, and other organization have contributed a lot of great libraries, which makes Java development easy, faster, and cost-effective.
There are frameworks like Spring, Struts, Maven, which ensures that Java development follows best practices of software craftsmanship, promotes the use of design patterns, and assisted Java developers in getting there job done.
I always recommend searching for functionality in Google before writing your own code. There is a good chance that it's already coded, tested, and available for ready to use.

6) Wonderful Community Support

A strong and thriving community is the biggest strength of Java programming language and platform. No matter how good a language is, it wouldn't survive if there is no community to support, help, and share their knowledge.
Java has been very lucky; it has lots of active forums, StackOverflow, open-source organizations, and several Java user groups to help everything.
There is the community to help beginners, advanced and even expert Java programmers. Java actually promotes taking and giving back to community habit. Lots of programmers, who use open source, contribute as a commiter, tester, etc.
Many Expert programmers provide advice FREE at various Java forums and StackOverflow. This is simply amazing and gives a lot of confidence to a newbie in Java.

7) Java is Platform Independent

In the 1990s, this was the main reason for Java's popularity. The idea of platform independence is great, and Java's tagline "write once run anywhere," and acronym "WORA" was enticing enough to attract lots of new development in Java.
This is still one of the reasons for Java being the best programming language, most Java applications are developed in the Windows environment and run on the Linux platform.

Graphics Design II - Web UI/UX Design (66633)
The User Interface (UI), on the other hand, is the process of improving the presentation and the interactivity of the web or mobile application. It focuses on the app’s look and interacts with the users. Each screen, page, buttons, and other visual elements you see while using an application is the User Interface of that application.
User Experience (UX) Design is the procedure of improving the overall experience of the users when they interact with the application or website in order to achieve its objective to provide maximum customer satisfaction. It keeps customers in mind and creates the basic skeleton of any application. It mainly focuses on wireframing an application and structuring all its components and elements appropriately to create the user flow.

Key components of UI/UX design -

Information Architecture
Interaction Design
Usability
Wireframing
Visual Design

The Ul/UX design of your mobile app or website is a very critical aspect of your Website/Application. If your Website/App is to be successful, then it will entirely depend on your Website/Application User Interface and User Experience. You need to research what will make your app attractive and more engaging to your users. The only way to do this is by understanding the needs of your target market and their preferences.

Apps Development Project (66673)
Flutter is a free and open-source mobile UI framework created by Google and released in May 2017. In a few words, it allows you to create a native mobile application with only one codebase. This means that you can use one programming language and one codebase to create two different apps (for iOS and Android).

Flutter consists of two important parts:

An SDK (Software Development Kit): A collection of tools that are going to help you develop your applications. This includes tools to compile your code into native machine code (code for iOS and Android).
A Framework (UI Library based on widgets): A collection of reusable UI elements (buttons, text inputs, sliders, and so on) that you can personalize for your own needs.
To develop with Flutter, you will use a programming language called Dart. The language was created by Google in October 2011, but it has improved a lot over these past years.

Flutter is a modern framework, and you can feel it! It’s way simpler to create mobile applications with it. If you have used Java, Swift, or React Native, you'll notice how Flutter is different.

N4 Level Japanese Language (Batch N4_08) Neera_Sensei
Course Description:
The N4 Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) measures basic levels of language proficiency. It is the second easiest exam after N5, and it tests the reading, and listening abilities of Japanese learned primarily at the beginner and intermediate level. The N4 is the second level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). To pass the N4, one will need to know about 300 kanji and about 1,500 vocabulary words.
Course contents:
- The N4 tests literary knowledge of approximately 300 kanji along with hiragana and katakana. Compared to the N5, the N4 has less kanji with furigana, which shows the phonetics of the kanji above it in hiragana. Test takers should familiarize themselves with the phonetic reading and meaning of more kanji than was required for the N5.
- The listening section of the N4 tests one’s ability to comprehend and follow conversations about familiar topics and situations. The audio is spoken at a slow pace, like the N5. The audio used in the N4 will use expressions and vocabulary that are slightly more advanced and complex than the N5, so having more listening experience and ability is a must.

Course Description:
The course provides an introduction to a core area of economics known as microeconomics. It considers the operation of a market economy and the problem of how best to allocate society's scarce resources. The course considers the way in which various decision making units in the economy (individuals and firms) make their consumption and production decisions and how these decisions are coordinated. It considers the laws of supply and demand, and introduces the theory of the firm, and its components, production and cost theories and models of market structure. The various causes of market failure are assessed, and consideration is given to public policies designed to correct this market failure.
Course Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding
This course aims to develop an understanding of the framework that economists use to analyse choices made by individuals in response to incentives and consider how these choices can also serve the social interest. The course introduces students to models of how individuals and firms interact within markets, when markets fail, and how government policy may improve outcomes for society. (Learning outcomes 1-6)

An excellent little book that we suggest you read before the course starts or over the first few weeks is a Random House publication, The Undercover Economist: Exposing Why the Rich Are Rich, the Poor Are Poor and Why You Can Never Buy a Decent Used Car! by Tim Harford. Copies are available in the Barr Smith Library multiple copies collection. You can preview the book at Google Books via the References section of the MyUni site.

If you are interested in learning something about the way economics has developed over the years (centuries), R.L. Heilbroner, Worldly Philosophers, (Simon and Schuster, several editions) provides a very readable account of the ideas, life and times of many of the greatest economists, from Adam Smith to the present.
